Apple announced two new versions of the Mac mini, one with the M2 chip found in the latest MacBook Air and another with a beefier M2 Pro chip aimed at creative professionals. These will likely replace our current recommendation for the Mac mini, as Apple has stopped selling the M1 version we previously recommended. Besides the newer chips, the updated desktops also include Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3. The base M2 model will also start at $100 cheaper than before, with a new price of $600. The Mac Mini with M2 Pro will start at $1,300. However, we still need to do more testing to figure out whether the M2 Pro Mac mini could be a less expensive replacement for the Mac Studio. The Mac mini will be available on January 24.
